The Brunswick Arts Council aims to offer a wide range of classes from beginnger to experienced. We have partnered with the Brunswick Library to offer free adult intro art classes to the community.
We will also be hosting fee based classes for those who want to dive deeper in their art education. See the list below for times and descriptions.

Bring your creativity and your appreciation for art and nature
Class Description: You can use flowers, leaves, stems and roots in various ways to add natural elements and texture to your art. Plant printing includes a variety of methods. During this time we will be making prints on paper, with botanicals, using paint. We will also discuss other methods including fabric dying, eco printing, and cyanotypes.
About the teacher: Tiffiny is a local tattoo artist and owner of America Tattoo. She works in many forms of art, including photography and mixed media sculpture among other.

Class Description: Discover the joy of creating! This art class invites students to explore techniques in drawing, painting, and mixed media while creating seasonal artwork. Bring a stuffy to draw or borrow one provided by the teacher, wear clothes to get messy in
Class Description: Students are invited to bring a favorite stuffed animal from home, or choose from several that can be borrowed for the class, which we will draw with charcoal. Make sure to wear clothes that can get messy!

Autumn Leaf Acrylic Painting Art Class (free) - November 9th, 2pm-4pm @ Brunswick Library

Description: Design and paint your own piece of artwork using leaf stencils and acrylic paint. Take home your own original artwork on an 8x10 canvas.

Class Description: Want to know how to take pictures of the Milky Way? Join Tara as she walks you through the process of capturing images at night - learn long exposure light painting, how to capture the milky way or, create a timelapse. Some basic knowledge of aperture and shutter speed is recommended. Bring a camera, a tripod, and a headlamp or flashlight. Open to all ages.
About the teacher: Tara Zabriskie is a photographer and filmmaker. Her documentary about light pollution "Defending the Dark" aired on PBS. She spent many nights in Maine capturing night sky images and timelapses for the film. She's currently working on a documentary about telescope making. Visit Website

Class Description: Have some free-form fun with this introduction to wool felting! Learn the basics of both wet felting and needle felting as you create an artistic felt sampler. We will also briefly dive into using felting as a method of visible mending for much-loved clothes. What to bring: A sweater that needs repair or customizing (optional). All other materials and tools will be provided.
About the teacher: Gennifer Majors is a textile conservator for The Textile Museum in DC, where she has spent the past 6 years studying and stitching on historic fabrics from around the world. This has made her passionate about the fun, care, and magic that can be found in something as simple as a piece of clothing. She studied textile conservation at the University of Glasgow, and loves to make gifts for others that also allow her to learn new niche hobbies - she is currently learning braided rug making, stone carving, and metal gilding for a variety of belated birthday gifts.

Class Description: Students will learn the basics of portrait drawing using a photo of their choice. We will cover facial proportion, creating unique features, using a grid technique, and pencil shading to bring it to life. students need a #2 pencil, a good eraser, and a 8x10 photo to grid and draw from (a print out is fine).

Beginner Adult Guitar Class: Campfire Guitarist

What to bring: Bring your own guitar
Class Description: Have a guitar collecting dust at home? Always dreamed of strumming your favorite songs around the campfire? This class is perfect for adults with little-to-no prior experience who want to finally learn how to play. You’ll build a solid foundation by learning how to use a pick, strum and play basic chords, and even try out fingerstyle playing, all while exploring a variety of musical genres. By the end of this 9-week course, you’ll be able to look up your favorite songs and confidently play them around the campfire or at home with friends.
About the teacher: Mark Koons has over 10 years of guitar teaching experience and a passion for helping beginners get started. He studied guitar at Shenandoah Conservatory and music education at Loyola University of Maryland. Mark currently teaches high school guitar and piano in Montgomery County Public schools and has also taught private lessons and led music workshops. His eclectic performance background spans rock bands, jazz bands, pit orchestras, acoustic duos and solo work, all reflecting his love for the guitar's versatility across genres.

Emotional Expression Using Abstract Art

Class Description: Students will practice identifying emotions and which colors, shapes, and textures reflect those emotions. We will use a combination of pencils, crayons, and acrylic paint to create an abstract art piece. No prior art experience needed.
Gel Block Printmaking Art Class (free) - June 8th, 2pm-4pm @ Brunswick Library
Instructor: Jon Knox
Description: Gel block printing is an experimental, layered, and just plain fun way to make prints! We use DIY stencils and improvised tools to create a type of monoprint, which means every print is unique. The washable tempera paint we use may stain light clothing, so paint clothes or dark colors is suggested. Students get to make-and-take their original works of art to be used for collages, cards, journals, or any kind of mixed-media projects.
Follow-Along Painting (free) - July 13th, 2pm-4pm @ Brunswick Library

Description: All participants will make their own 11x14 acrylic painting of Loy Station covered bridge on canvas board. Come paint along with Michelle as she walks you step by step through how to paint the scene. Open to beginners or experienced painters. No skills or supplies necessary.

Potomac River Scenery Sip n Paint Fundraiser ($45)

Description: Come out for an evening of painting with local artist Catherine Vincent. The profits from this class go toward the Brunswick Arts Council to help us buy art supplies for community classes.
Paint on a pre-drawn canvas a riverside scene inspired by the Potomac river. This event is beginner friendly, all levels are welcome. Registration fee includes one beer/wine during event. Space is limited.
